Hello, friends and fellow climbers! 🙌
We made it! On January 4th at exactly 12:00 p.m., 8 out of 11 climbers from our team stood on the summit of Aconcagua — the highest point in the Americas. 🌎⛰️
The weather was absolutely perfect, just as forecasted. We spent an entire hour on the summit — celebrating, soaking in the views, and hydrating. Honestly, it was the best summit day I’ve ever had on Aconcagua. The wind was so calm that we could place a piece of paper on the ground and it wouldn’t even move — a rare gift at nearly 7,000 meters. 🌤️
Unfortunately, Diogo fell ill and had to stop his ascent at 5,630 meters. He began his descent to base camp today and is making plans to return to Brazil soon.
Our teammate Grit was hit by a pulmonary infection and had to turn back at 6,100 meters during the summit push. Her husband, Mike, made the tough but honorable call to descend with her back to Camp 3.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team pushed on with determination. In just four hours, they reached the base of the Canaleta at 6,720m. Around noon, we crossed the 6,900m mark, with sweeping views of Aconcagua’s majestic south face — a truly breathtaking moment. 🌄
We all gathered at the summit and shared that special hour together before beginning our descent around 1:00 p.m. Some of our climbers — Julian, Florian, Maximilian, and Stefan — descended all the way to base camp in an incredible 7-hour journey!
Gunnar, Angel, Raymund, and I stayed overnight at Camp 3 and only arrived at base camp this afternoon.
Now it’s time to pack up, enjoy a well-earned rest, and celebrate in Mendoza for two days. 🍷 On January 8th, my next Aconcagua expedition kicks off, and by the 10th we’ll be back inside the park, ready to take on the mountain once again.
Whether you’re planning your own journey to climb Aconcagua in 2025, or just dreaming of the summit, now is the time to start preparing. Our expeditions combine safety, experience, and heart — and we’re just getting started this season.
Thanks for following our blog and being part of this incredible journey.
More updates coming soon!
See you on the trail,
Maximo Kausch
