Ojos del Salado Expedition Underway – February 2022
Expedition in Progress!
We’ve officially kicked off our Ojos del Salado Expedition with a team of 11 climbers aiming to summit the highest volcano in the world, rising to 6,898 meters on the border between Chile and Argentina.
Ojos del Salado is not just one of the tallest mountains in the Andes — it’s also one of the most remote. That’s why our approach requires serious logistics and a strong team effort.
🚙 Remote Access, Full Logistics
To approach this Andean giant, we’re using two fully equipped 4×4 trucks, operated by our experienced driver-guides Javier Callupan and Junior Câmara. The expedition will carry over 700 kg of water, food, and gear, essential for ensuring success and safety at extreme altitudes.
🧭 Acclimatization Strategy
Climbing Ojos del Salado demands a careful and well-planned acclimatization process. Our expedition leader, Maximo Kausch, has designed a strategic route where we’ll summit three mountains before attempting Ojos itself — allowing our bodies to adapt gradually to high-altitude conditions.
