February brought innovation, summits, and snow to the Dry Andes. Andes Specialists just wrapped up another successful expedition to Ojos del Salado and Cerro San Francisco, but this year’s climb was different. For the first time ever, we launched our brand-new Andes Flex Project, giving climbers more freedom and flexibility than ever before.
The Andes Flex Project is our unique, customizable approach to high-altitude expeditions. Climbers sign up for a climb of Cerro San Francisco — an accessible and beautiful 6,000-meter peak — and once they’re in the mountains, they decide how far they want to go:
Option 1: Return after climbing San Francisco
Option 2: Stay longer, pay a flexible upgrade, and climb Ojos del Salado
Option 3: Use the logistics to climb a different 6,000m peak nearby
This project gives you the freedom to test yourself, feel the altitude, and choose the experience that fits you best — all with the full support of the Andes Specialists team.
This season, we welcomed a diverse team of climbers. Some came only to climb Mount San Francisco, while others extended and went all the way to the summit of Ojos del Salado (6,893m) — the highest volcano on Earth.

San Francisco + Ojos del Salado:
The rest of the team opted to continue, facing heavy snow conditions and pushing through with strong acclimatization and group effort. Most climbers succeeded in summiting Ojos, marking one of the best February teams we’ve had in recent years.
February 2024 was also the first time we tested having a professional chef at base camp — and the results were phenomenal. Mr. Charlie Carlos delivered fresh, nutritious meals every day, helping the team recover better and boosting morale in the harsh Dry Andes environment.
Expect this upgrade to be part of our 2025 expeditions too — because climbers deserve good food at 5,000 meters!
With over a decade of experience in the Puna de Atacama, Andes Specialists remains one of the top choices for serious climbers looking for expert guidance, reliable logistics, and customized itineraries.
If you’re searching for the Best Time to Climb Ojos del Salado, February and early March remain excellent windows for weather and snow conditions. Our itineraries include:
Ojos del Salado Expedition – fully supported, expertly guided
Flexible Andes Flex packages – start with San Francisco, upgrade on the go
Other 6,000m peaks – like El Muerto, Vicuñas, and Tres Cruces options
Professional base camp logistics – including our expedition chef
We’re already building our Ojos del Salado 2025 team — and you don’t have to decide everything in advance. Sign up for our Andes Flex Project, start with a solid summit of San Francisco, and then choose whether you want to extend to Ojos, or another nearby peak, when you’re already acclimatized.
Spots are limited. Flexibility is unlimited.
Thanks to everyone who joined us this February — and especially to those who made history in our first Andes Flex Expedition!
See you on the next summit,
– Andes Specialists Team
