Ojos del Salado Feb 12th 2025 – A Summit Success Against the Odds
February 12th, 2025 – The Journey Begins
Our team set off on an epic adventure toward the summit of Ojos del Salado, the world’s highest volcano. Despite extreme conditions, careful planning, and some unexpected challenges, we ultimately succeeded on February 24th.
The Challenge: Overcoming Heavy Snow and Tough Logistics

Initial Attempt & Setback:
On February 22nd, our team made an early summit attempt but had to turn around due to an overwhelming amount of snow. The conditions were so severe that we had to shovel our way clear just to drive safely. -
Regroup & Reassess:
We returned to Base Camp (BC) to regroup, pack our tents, and reassess our strategy. Using our new Starlink internet connection, we were able to check detailed weather forecasts daily, which was crucial for our next move. -
Re-mobilizing:
With updated weather data in hand, we headed back up and established a new camp at Atacama Camp (5,200m). There, we managed a challenging logistical feat—driving three 4WD trucks up to Tejos (5,837m), enabling us to push forward toward the summit. -
Summit Push:
On February 24th, after a grueling final effort in excess snow, our team made a determined push for the summit. Although the harsh conditions meant not everyone reached the top, the expedition was a success overall.
